Bruges, Belgium
While we were in Brussels, we took several day trips to other parts of Belgium. Our next stop was Bruges, Belgium. What a cute little town on the water. This quaint city has many bridges and canals. So after taking the train from Brussels, we arrived in Bruges for a beautifully warm day with an unexpected surprise...
Michelle finds a "just my size" door.
Stopping for a pic on the grounds of a hospital from the 15th century:
Michelangelo's statue "Madonna and Child." This was the only sculpture to leave Italy in his lifetime.
Palm Sunday branches:
This place really is sweet!
"Hey, that looks like Al Falk," said Michelle. We ran into the Falk family in Bruge! Al is the principal of our high school, Connie works with us in the primary and their 3 children are students at our school. Their youngest was in my class last year. Small world!

We went on a little boat tour.
We were not sure about the chocolate in Brussels. There were so many places to choose from and not knowing which ones were tourist traps made it more difficult to splurge. So we waited until Bruges to try the infamous treat and WOW! it was amazing! We bought a few truffles from this shop and had to go back for more later.
Chocolate manufacturing, front and center view:
When you live in an area with so many canals this must be the latest water fashion:

Ending our day right. Helena and I split mussels and fries, which is a popular combination in Belgium. Again, lets embrace the culture.
